What to expect during a consultation

During the initial consultation,  a detailed history would be taken, your feet and legs would be examined and a biomechanical examination carried out. The podiatrist would also assess your walking/running gait using slow motion video gait analysis . This is followed by discussion and diagnosis of the problem and implementation of a treatment plan.  Orthotics are not always recommended to every patient and we can discuss footwear and other aspects of podiatry treatment in the consultation.

Should the treatment plan however include Custom Made Orthotics, and you wish to go ahead with this, casts of your feet can be taken at the first consultation. These casts will be sent to the lab who make the orthotics according to the prescription designed by the podiatrist with information collated from your biomechanical assessment and Gait Analysis.   They take approximately 3-4 weeks to be made.

Please wear normal everyday walking shoes and bring shorts and trainers (if applicable) to your appointment.  Should you already have orthotics/insoles could you also bring these with you.

Orthotic Therapy Terms and Conditions

If consent is given to have Custom Made Orthotics manufactured it is on the understanding of the Patient that there can be a manufacture time of up to 1 month. A fee can be paid for a ‘Rush Order’ however the Orthotics are only guaranteed to be back within 10 working days with a Rush Order.

There are no guarantees that Orthotic Therapy will be a solution to the presenting problem and wearing Orthotics can cause side effects to The Patient which may include other musculoskeletal symptoms or pathology and/or a worsening of presenting symptoms. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, orthotics are now posted out to Patients unless an orthotic fitting appointment is specifically requested. A fee for posting will be added to the bill for the Orthotics. When the orthotics are posted,  instructions will be provided with the Orthotic devices explaining a break in procedure which must be followed by The Patient. Consent will be granted by the patient either at the casting for the Orthotics or by email or verbally that they wish to have the Orthotics sent and will agree to contact us with any problems or questions if problems arise with The Orthotics or the fit.

In some cases modifications are required to improve the function or comfort of the Orthotics. There is a turn around time of up to 3 weeks for this to be carried out. Sometimes more than one modification is required and lab modification times and shipping times can delay this process. Orthotic modification, orthotic remakes and follow up appointments related to problems with the Orthotics are free of charge up to 12 months from time of casting, thereafter a fee may be charged. Please be fully aware of these facts before consenting to have Orthotics manufactured.
